The University Hospital, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (UHKDU), marked a historic milestone on 21st January 2026 with the successful completion of its first medico-legal post-mortem examination following the formal establishment of Medico-Legal Services – UHKDU.
This significant achievement was accomplished under the leadership of the newly appointed Consultant Judicial Medical Officer, Major (Dr) MWDTB Rambukwella, marking a major advancement in the hospital’s clinical, academic, and medico-legal capabilities.
The initiation of comprehensive medico-legal services represents a critical development in the evolution of UHKDU as a fully functional teaching hospital. Medico-legal services are an essential component of modern tertiary healthcare institutions, integrating clinical medicine with legal, ethical, and forensic responsibilities.
