ABOUT US
The Department of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and quality of patient care at University Hospital KDU. Our mission is to prevent healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and support a culture of patient safety through evidence-based practices and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities & Activities
- Development and implementation of hospital-wide infection control policies and guidelines
- Surveillance of healthcare-associated infections and outbreak investigation
- Monitoring and promoting hand hygiene and standard precautions across all units
- Coordination of antimicrobial stewardship activities with clinical departments
- Conducting regular IPC training and capacity-building programs for healthcare staff
- Supervision of environmental cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization practices
- Risk assessments and IPC support for high-risk procedures and clinical areas
- Management of exposure incidents, including needlestick injuries and body fluid spills
- Collaboration with the microbiology laboratory to support key organism surveillance and antimicrobial resistance tracking
- Active participation in hospital quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
The IPC Department works in close partnership with hospital leadership, clinical teams, and support services to foster a safe healing environment for all patients and staff
